Adoptive parents, Amy and Harry

Dear Birthmother,

We are Amy and Harry, and we are honored that you are taking this time to get to know us.  We are a stable, professional couple and over twelve years of marriage have built a life and a home that we hope to share with a child.  When we found out that we were challenged by infertility, we had no doubt that adoption was the right way for us to build our family.

We were introduced by friends at church 15 years ago, who knew we both worked in similar jobs.  Harry is an engineer, and has designed everything from bridges to large equipment foundations.  At work he enjoys teaching the younger engineers and watching them develop their abilities.  Amy is a project manager, and is currently managing a project with engineering being performed in the U.S., India and Russia.  As part of her job, Amy enjoys traveling and meeting people from different cultures.

At home, we enjoy a slower pace.  Amy usually spends Saturday mornings at the barn where we board her horse, taking a riding lesson or trail riding with friends.  A “hot date” on Saturday night is usually dinner out followed by coffee while we browse in the local bookstore.  Other times we enjoy grilling dinner in the backyard or a picnic at a local park with our dogs.

We feel that we are prepared to devote ourselves fully to raising a child.  We are enjoying the process of preparing for the arrival of a child by decorating a kid’s bedroom, taking an infant CPR class, and researching daycare and preschool facilities near our home.  We are both planning to take temporary family leave from work after the baby arrives.

Amy is full of energy and always busy!  She volunteers with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and makes every effort to plan interesting experiences for her “Little” – from trips to the beach to beaded jewelry classes.

Amy is always up for a challenge whether it is a new assignment at work or her current “project” to learn Spanish.

Harry is one of the smartest guys I know, which makes him a really interesting person!  He loves to read and I am amazed at the variety of subjects he enjoys learning and talking about.

I know he will enjoy helping with homework and science projects.  But he’s also a big kid – he is looking forward to buying the “cool toys” and getting involved in organized sports with a son or daughter.

Amy’s family lives about two hours away, where her dad is a university professor, and we enjoy visiting for college baseball games.  Amy’s sister and brother-in-law live in the same city we do and have a one year old son ready for a cousin to play with.  Amy’s sister is a pediatrician, so we have a well-qualified babysitter on call!

Harry’s family lives just a little farther away, and trips to visit include playing at the beach and cooking out.  We particularly enjoy spending time with Harry’s brother Perry and his wife June, who have a house in the country where June keeps the horses that she fosters for the local animal rescue organization.  On Harry’s side of the family, our child will be the first grandchild, and the whole family is ready to spoil a baby! We believe that God blesses every individual with unique talents and gifts.
