Adoptive parents, Margie and Les

Dear Birthmother,

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us as you are planning for your baby’s future.  Our names are Les and Margie, and we have a son named John that we had the privilege to adopt as a newborn in 2006, after years of infertility.  We are committed to creating a happy home, filled with laughter and joy...we wish to share these blessings again with a growing family of our own!

We met at a university at a Christian student group, and were married after graduation, 12 years ago.  We really enjoy spending time together as a family, and becoming parents has brought us even closer.

We love to go hiking and camping in National Parks together!  We ride bikes with John (and a cousin!) in the backseat.  We also go running or skiing in the forest preserves near our home.  We want to share the simple, beautiful things in life with our kids.  We eat dinner together every night and afterward play games or take walks. Holidays are full and happy with our large extended family on both sides!

I am a pediatrician and adult medicine physician working at a Christian health center.  I spent three years in private practice before switching to a job where I have a schedule that allows me to spend significant time with my family.  Margie and I are very involved with our church where I serve in leadership and help with the kids’ Awana program.  I enjoy many activities, particularly running (5k to ultramarathons), backpacking, reading, rock climbing, and most sports.

My family lives nearby and we often plan extended family camping and waterpark trips, bike rides, and birthday parties.  My parents are active and devoted grandparents who love John immensely and look forward to more grandchildren to spoil!

Being a full-time mom is the best job I’ve ever had!  Before adopting our son, I worked as a maternal-child nurse.  I love doing all the mom things-  dressing, feeding, playing, reading  and just simply loving!

I enjoy reading, running, camping, sewing, and hiking.  At church, I teach the junior high Sunday school class and direct the preschool “Cubbies” program.  I sing on the worship team on Sunday mornings, and I play our piano.  I grew up in a large, Christian German immigrant family with lots of old-fashioned values.

Our son John is three and loves to be around other kids, both bigger and smaller.  John easily gives hugs and attention to those around him.

John’s birthmom chose us to raise her son because she wanted a stable and loving home for her baby.  In addition to letters and pictures, we met her and her family at the time of John’s birth and then again at six months.   John comes across her pictures in our home and says “that’s my birthmom, she loves me very much!”

Les and Margie's four bedroom homeOur Church, Home, and Community
We attend a non-denominational church where there are lots of other kids and young families.  Our church has Sunday School classes and a midweek Awana program.  We believe that the most important Christian education is what a child sees at home.  A number of children at our church came to their families through adoption- they have all been received with great joy!

We live in a four bedroom home in suburban Midwest.  We just remodeled our basement into a big open playroom!  Our home is within walking distance of schools for all 12 grades; plus, a library and ice cream shop downtown!  We participate in many of the community programs including kids Spanish and music.

Les and Margie promise to be open about your child's backgroundOur Plans for the Future
We will be open about your child’s background and origin, and about your love for your child.  We are happy to share pictures and letters with you as your child matures, and look forward to meeting you.

We want our children to grow up in a caring and nurturing environment where their own personality and talents will flourish.   We want to model and teach our children to become adults of character that will have a significant impact on the world around them. We are committed to investing in their future and pouring our lives into theirs. Margie does plan on continuing to be a full-time mom and Les plans on continuing to make family a priority.
