Adoptive parents, Melanie and Steven

Dear Birthmother,

We are Steven and Melanie.   We met each other through a friend at church and have been married for 15 years.  We live in a cozy town where we feel at home and attend church together with a great church family.

Steven and Melanie playing Monopoly with their son AlecAbout Us:

We enjoy a lot of the same music and television shows or just lounging with our two dogs, watching movies or playing board games.  In our family housework is usually a joint effort and not a “daily” drudgery.  Our parents are very involved in our lives and eager to spoil an additional grandchild!

We feel our marriage has grown strong, loving, and supportive over the years and another child will only add more love to our relationship.  We hope to share our family’s values with your child to help bring him or her closer to God and give a foundation for a fulfilled life.

Steve teaches high school English at a large suburban school close to home.  He enjoys his job, is devoted to Shakespeare and Classical literature and is popular with his students. He loves spending time with our son Alec during the school year (holidays, etc.) and during the summer.  In fact, around here, summertime is “daddy time.”  He and Alec are best buddies; they love fishing, playing catch, reading comics, and playing video games.  Steve also enjoys teaching Sunday school and visiting with people.  He loves reading, writing, and supporting his favorite college football team.

Melanie enjoying a game of tennisAbout Melanie:

Melanie is a Speech Language Pathologist and works with people who have profound multiple handicaps.  She derives satisfaction from helping her clients and loves the flexibility that her job allows her schedule.

Melanie feels she has the best of both worlds because she is able to have a career and be a stay-at-home mom.  She takes our son to school every morning, volunteers to be a classroom helper and can work her schedule around her family.

At the same time, she is very active in her professional organization, and enjoys gymnastics, reading, and long walks with her super sweet Labrador retriever.  Melanie is a great mommy; very organized and affectionate.

Our son Alec was born in Guatemala and we adopted him when he was nine months old.  From day one he was a daddy’s boy.  He has been the real joy of our lives, and helping him grow and learn about the wide world has been the greatest honor.  Alec is very talented at Karate, he has been state champion two years in a row, and we are very active in going to tournaments to watch him perform.  He loves his friends, enjoys taking Karate with his daddy and is a great student who loves to read.  The best thing about his personality is that he is quite independent, but at the same time very sensitive to other people’s feelings.  He always wants to “do it for himself,” but he really cares about doing the right thing.  Alec is interested in every baby he sees.  Becoming a big brother is the most exciting thing in his life.

Steven and Melanie's home in OklahomaOur Home in Oklahoma:

We live in a quiet, lakeside neighborhood in a suburban community.  Our neighborhood is composed of mostly younger families with school age children for Alec to play with.

Our town has a small town atmosphere but is convenient to big city opportunities.  Even though it’s small, it is really ethnically and culturally diverse.  Alec goes to a really good school and has all kinds of friends.

Melanie and Steven promise to always be there for your childIn Closing:

We promise to you that as parents, we will always be there for your child.  We promise to be financially responsible, morally sound, emotionally available, and spiritually supportive.  We want you to know that should you choose us, we will raise your child in a loving home with sincere Christian values.  We’re not perfect, but we’re committed to Jesus, and we believe that He is able to help us be the best parents we can be.

We promise to love your child without conditions, and do our best to help your child live a complete and joyous life. You and your baby will be in our prayers. Please call Lifetime Adoption at 1-800-923-6784 to speak with us.
