Our Open Adoption Story

When we received the call from Veronica that there was a girl who was 12 weeks pregnant, we were so excited! The first phone conversation went so well; we discovered that we were a lot alike. So we had a few more phone conversations; she liked us and we liked her. Then, we waited for the gender of the baby. The birthmother texted me “AUSTIN KAGE will be yours as soon as he comes out.” We were so happy!

We flew right out! We were so nervous and so happy at the same time, we couldn’t even believe it.  The next day, we met with the birth mom and her mom at Denny’s for breakfast. That was such an interesting morning: after breakfast we went with Austin’s birthmom to her doctor’s appointment. We heard Austin’s heart beat for the first time! It was so exciting, it was like a dream. She is so nice and so is her mom: they made us feel like one big family.

When we got the call that Austin’s birthmother’s water broke, we headed straight to the hospital! Austin came into this world weighing 7lbs 11ozs, 19 1/2 inches long. He had a full head of dark hair. We were so overwhelmed; we loved him before he was even here, now he’s here and we love him even more! 

The first night, we stayed in the room with Austin’s birthmother and slept right next to her. We took turns taking care of Austin; it was pretty awesome! The second night, we stayed in the room across from hers. The next morning, we waited for the lawyers to come to get the adoptions papers signed; it was such an emotional day.

Austin’s birthmother is our angel: she means the world to us. She gave us the best gift of all! We went to Austin’s birthmother’s work and showed him off and she got him an outfit that said mommy’s little monster. The next night, we went on a picnic with Austin’s birthmother’s family: we had so much fun!

Austin was so good on the plane ride home: he only cried when we landed. We are so happy to be home! Our whole family was waiting for us at the airport. Austin’s birthmother still keeps in touch through texting and phone calls. We send her pictures of Austin every day. We hope in the future that we can get together again.
