Diane Schafer
Senior Adoption Coordinator
Since 1999, Diane has been working very
closely on a daily basis with our birthparents and adoptive
families. She is Lifetime's Senior Coordinator
and the one that staff members seek out when they need questions
answered
or a sounding board.
Diane most
enjoys working with the birthparents. "Many people take
birthparents for granted," she says. "They need
our support, they need someone to just listen and then get
them the help
they are seeking. And most importantly, they need to know
that their child is growing up happy and healthy. Adoptive
families should know how important those cards and photos
are to
a birthparent, especially one without family support."
Before coming to Lifetime, Diane spent ten years
volunteering with La Leche League as a support for breastfeeding
mothers.
She especially enjoyed working with adoptive mothers and helping
them learn about the joys and benefits of breastfeeding. Diane understands the desire that adoptive families
have to be parents. After undergoing infertility treatments herself,
she began pursuing adoption. Now, mother to three boys, she enjoys
helping
other couples become parents. She enjoys perennial gardening
and playing the guitar, but her first love is her family.
